Shanghai Oriental TV Reports: Shanghai Reconstructed Dujiangyan Schools Completion Handover Ceremony Celerabated at China's First Full Wood Frame School
Shanghai Oriental TV Reports
The handover ceremony of 22 schools reconstructed under the Shanghai One-on-One Support Scheme to Dujiangyan was celebrated at the newly completed Dujiangyan Xiang’e Primary School this afternoon. All 22 schools were handed over to the city of Dujiangyan, accounting for the greatest number of reconstructed schools to have been handed over all at once for the reconstruction of Sichuan. On September 1, 35,000 students will bid farewell to their temporary schools and relocate to these newly reconstructed schools.
The Xiang’e Primary School, the first full wood frame primary school in the country, was highly complimented by students and teachers on the handover ceremony. The school is not only seismically safe and environmentally friendly, it is also very comfortable. On September 1, the students and teachers of Xiang’e School will say good bye to temporary school houses, and start their new school year here.
One student said, “I definitely like the new school! The temporary school is too hot even with the fan turned on. The new school is lovely, many times better than our old school.”
Also handed over along with Xiang’e were Tazibei Primary School, Tuqiao Primary School, and Tuanjie Primary School among the 22 schools. The total construction area of the schools were 37,000 sqm covering Dujiangyan and 14 suburb counties within its jurisdiction. The schools could house 780 classes and 35,000 students, accounting for about half of Dujiangyan’s student population.
All the schools have facilities such as student cafeteria and dormitory, with a total investment of 13 billion RMB into complimentary teaching facilities that will also be used at the start of the school year. Class room lighting, tables and desks, lockers, computers, audio-visual classroom, high speed internet, field speakers, among others were all in line with primary and middle school standards in Shanghai.
Shanghai Architectural Science Research Institute Mr. YU Yong said, “Everything had been fully completed, including educational facilities inside the schools structures. At the start of the new school year, Dujiangyan students will have a superior learning environment provided to them.”
Simultaneous to the handover of school building structures, Shanghai had been busy with other details such as paying the first year of operations fee for the schools, and improve the quality of Dujiangyan’s education by providing training to the teachers and conducting teachers exchange sessions.
